Welcome to the FAQ page!  Here you will find answers to the commonly asked questions about photo sessions.  Please feel free to contact me if your question is not addressed here.

Q:  Where are you located?  Where do you shoot?

A:  I am located in West Vaughan, just 20 min north of Toronto.  Newborn and child sessions are conducted in my home studio. Various outdoor locations are used for family, child and maternity sessions and can be discussed when you consider booking a session.  Time and travel premiums will be applied in certain circumstances.

Q:  When should I book a newborn session?

A:  Simply put...anytime after you've decided that you want to capture this special time in your family's life.  I strongly encourage booking while you are still expecting as sessions are best done within 10 days of baby's arrival.  This allows you to get those sweet, sleepy poses that you will cherish forever.  Your date will be moved according to your progress.

Q:  My baby is more than the recommended 10 day age for photographing.  What are my options?

A:  There is never a "wrong" time to photograph.  The recommened 10 day time frame is an industry standard that allows for ease of posing.  The dispositions of all babies is different.  Please contact me so we may review the session expectations in more detail.

Q: How long is a newborn session and what will I need to bring?

A:  Sessions are typically 3 hours long and because we invest so much in your session, it is necessary to bring several key items. I recommend that you bring multiple feedings, a couple of pacifiers (if you are using them), and a change of clothes for YOU     (inevitably baby will pee/poop during the session while unclothed so it's helpful to have back up)!  You are also welcome to bring   any props of special meaning to your session.  I just kindly request that you limit them to 1 or 2 and send me a photo beforehand so that I can best plan to incorporate your special item(s).  All other props and accessories are provided by me and we can discuss your preferences at the time of your session.

Q:  I would like to include my older child/ren in the photo and/or I would like some parent shots.  How does this change the session fee and the session dynamic?

A:  A newborn session is $250.  There is no additional charge for family shots.  For both parent and sibling shots, we discuss styling and preferences beforehand.  Specifically for sibling shots, it is necessary that an additional adult accompany you to the session so that once the older child/ren's part of the session is complete, they may be taken home separately.  In my experience, this is the least stressful way to handle the session for all those involved (and you can enjoy the newborn part of the session!)  I strive to provide a relaxing and calm environment that is important for the momentum of the session.  Getting a newborn posed takes time, patience and careful handling.  It is important that not only the photos you get are memorable, but that you enjoy the process of seeing your baby in all those adorable poses!!

Q:  When is the best time do a maternity shoot?

A:  It is generally recommended you plan your maternity session in late second or early third trimester.  You want to be clearly showing but still feel comfortable enough to enjoy the process.  Earlier than that and the belly may not be prominent enough and later than that you may feel uncomfortable.  But every woman and every pregnancy is different, so listening to your body is always important.

Q:  Can I take video or phone photos during a photo session?

A:  This is respectfully prohibited.

Q:  What happens after the session?

A:  After the session, you will be given the opportunity to review the photos taken during the session.  At this time you will choose the number of edits as well as the package and it's details.  The turnaround time for your photo DVD is usually a week from the session date.

Q:  What will my portrait package include?

A:  Every portrait package includes a DVD with digitally enhanced images (# indicated in package details).  There are no watermarks or copyright on the images so that you may develop them at your local print shop!  Any additional edits may be puchased for $10 ea.  As well you may choose to upgrade your entire DVD to a higher resolution.  Please enquire.  Pricing includes the time and talent of the photographer including pre- and post consultation as well as the  use of props and accessories.  A product price list is available upon request.  The completed contract and full session fee are collected on the day of the photo shoot.

Q:  Do you provide the cake for the cake smash sessions?

A:  This is the responsibility of the parent.  Suggestions for vendors and styling are always discussed.

Q:  I want to share my images on Facebook or other social media sites.  What do I need to know?

A:  The copyright belongs to Storytime Photography by Mary Ann.  All images on social media sites should maintain my watermark and be the appropriately sized images.  Please do not alter my photos in any way.

Q:  How long are images stored?

A:  It is important to back up your photo DVD a.s.a.p.  I am not responsible for image storage after your initial post session purchase has been completed.

Q:  How does Storytime Photography by Mary Ann use my images?

A:  This is covered in detail in your contract.  Images are not used without written permission.

Q:  Do you have Gift Certificates available?

A:  Yes in any denomination.  They expire 1 year from the date of issuance.

Q:  Do you offer a referral program?

A:  Yes!  A referral is the best complement and as a way to saying thank you, I extend you a $20 session fee credit toward a future session.  The client you refer must be a new client and that client must book a session with me in order to qualify.
